Beginning in October 2025, Google is set to roll out a significant update to its smart home devices: the AI assistant Gemini will replace Google Assistant across devices such as the Google Nest Hub. This transition introduces more advanced conversational features, enabling natural dialogues and complex commands that integrate context from multiple Nest devices, including video doorbells and thermostats. Users will also benefit from Gemini Live, which allows real-time conversation refinement by interrupting and redirecting responses. The Gemini update will be available for both free and paid Google Home users, mirroring Amazon's strategy with Alexa+. While pricing details remain unclear, early access is anticipated for Nest Aware subscribers, who currently pay $10 per month. Gemini was previously showcased at CES 2025 and on Google TV, emphasizing its enhanced smart integration. The update may coincide with new Google Home hardware releases, though no specific product announcements have been made. More rollout information is expected soon.

Sakana's Fugu delivers multi-agent frontier performance through one API - and pitches it as an export-control hedge

Sakana AI has launched Fugu and Fugu Ultra, a multi-agent orchestration system delivered as a single foundation model - Fugu is itself an LLM trained to route tasks across a swappable pool of the world's best models (and recursively to itself) via one OpenAI-compatible API. Sakana says Fugu Ultra matches frontier models like Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos Preview on demanding engineering, science, and reasoning benchmarks, while pitching the approach as an AI-sovereignty hedge: if one provider's access disappears, as with Anthropic's recently export-controlled models, Fugu reroutes around it. It is generally available today through subscription and pay-as-you-go tiers.
